Southern California Fukuoka Kenjinkai

"Nikkei Fukuokan Night"

The term Nikkei refers to Japanese people who emigrated from Japan and their descendants i.e. the people who have Japan as their roots. The Southern California Fukuoka Kenjinkai, a group of Nikkei who are related to Fukuoka prefecture, will mark its 100th anniversary this year. In celebration of this, an English-speaking reception party will be held at Japanese American National Museum with the guests of honor flying all the way from Fukuoka Japan to share the joy of the occasion. The future prosperity of the Southern California Fukuoka Kenjinkai depends on the cooperation from the younger, such as Nisei, Sansei, or later generations of Fukuokans. As the members of the organization, we hope to better establish the relationships between the younger and elder Fukuokans through the party. We hope to achieve this by introducing or reminding the party attendees of their roots as Fukuokans and encourage them to build a stronger passion towards their roots as well.

The party agenda includes:
1. Eating, seeing, and understanding Fukuoka (Photo gallery introducing Fukuoka, 15 minutes documentary video)
2. A fun true or false trivia game revolving around Fukuoka that will be played by all attendees
3. Speeches by Nikkei leaders.
4. Fukuoka scholarship funded student's touching message
5. Experience a Fukuoka Matsuri
